Various Artists – Phil Spector Presents The Philles Album Collection

January 01, 1970

(Phil Spector/Legacy)

Say what you will about Phil Spector now that he is a
convicted felon on a second degree murder rap. But no level of controversy can
take away the sheer genius of his reign as one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most
innovative producers. The Beatles, Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, Ramones,
Suicide, Jesus and Mary Chain and Dum Dum Girls are just a portion of the names
who have utilized his “Wall of Sound” technique as a creative template
for the last half-century-a style he had developed as the CEO of his Philles Records

To mark its 50th anniversary, the halcyon days of the
groundbreaking imprint have been exhaustively chronicled on this massive seven
disc box set. For the first time ever in the digital age, all six original
Philles LPs, released between 1962 and 1964 including full-length titles by
such Spector superstars as The Crystals, Bobb B. Sox and the Blue Jeans and the
Ronettes, have been gorgeously upgraded and have never sounded as vibrant and
crisp as they do here. Also included for hardcore Philles-philes is a collection
of all the instrumental flipsides Spector recorded for his singles that is a
must-hear for any fan of vintage Jack Nitzsche and the L.A. Wrecking Crew.
