In a world filled with tribute CDs that all sound
alike, the father of a 5-year old boy who died last March from complications
due to epilepsy has put together something very different. Two CDs — Joey’s Song for Kids and Joey’s Song: Volume I — both honor the
memory of 5-year old Joe Gomoll, the adopted son of Michael. The disc
“Joey’s Song for Kids” is filled with well-known kids songs including
“Working on the Railroad” and “The Wheels on the Bus” plus
some originals. All are happy, upbeat tunes recorded, of course, for kids by
musicians including the Crash Test Dummies and Steve Wynn (who donated a
previously unpublished track). Joey’s
Song: Volume I
is where things get even more interesting with track after
track of rare, live and original material. Stand out tracks include the
surprisingly lush “Streets of Laredo” by Slaid Cleaves and a smoky
rendition of “Still I Dream” by AA Bondy. Little wonder Raul Malo and
Cracker’s David Lowery and other musicians have already signed on to contribute
to future CDs.
