This was the fifth night of The Pixies’ 2014 tour and I highly anticipated being at the show. It was also my first trip to the renovated Capitol Theatre. This theatre is another of the New York area’s little known secrets. Opening in 1926 as a dignified playhouse, the theatre has hosted the likes of Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin to name a few.
I could tell the excitement was building through the opening act FIDLAR who had brought their own version of punk rock to The Capitol. The Pixies opened up with “Bone Machine” and went through a catalog of songs including a slowed down version of “Heaven”. Throughout, the band seemed comfortable and cool, and I found it hard to believe some of their songs are twenty five years plus old—they sounded as fresh as ever. Props to Paz Lenchantin for stepping in on bass, she fit spot nicely. Overall, the show was awesome and I highly recommend catching this tour when it comes to your town.
