Little Anchor 2-11

Nifty little record by this Brooklyn, NY band led by female vocalist Alexa Cabellon. The band had self-released a few EPs prior to this and now comes a 7-song full-length. I hear a definite ‘90s indie pop vibe by the band, but this isn’t straight-up jangle by any stretch. In addition to a varied plate of music, Cabellon’s vocals occasionally will remind you of Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval (minus Sandoval’s “hopeless” vibe).

Opening cut “Alive” (“You make me feel alive…”) has a bit of a funk groove to it while “Solid as Glue” starts off the same way but then kicks into something dreamier. “Carolina Waits” is simply swooning and gorgeous and they put some kick into their step on the bouncy “If I Wanted To.”

If you often reach back to the ‘90s for musical inspiration then reach forward for this.
