First, some clarification. While the name Ivan & Alyosha conjures up images of Russian ballet partners, in truth, they’re a Seattle quartet that takes its name from characters plucked from Dostoevsky’s classic The Brothers Karamazov. Nevertheless, Tim Wilson, Ryan Carbary, Pete Wilson and Tim Kim have quickly made a name for themselves, while showing a penchant for the unabashedly effusive sound and style championed by the likes of the Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, Fun. and various other pop outfits who have suddenly become the darlings of both the public and the pundits over the last couple of years.

From the first strains of “Be Your Man,’ through the assertive delivery of “Easy To Love,” the billowing swell of “Running for Cover” and the shimmer and sparkle of “The Fold,” Ivan & Alyosha offer an emphatic combination of allure and affirmation that all but assures instant appreciation.  In the process, they’ve proven themselves formidable contenders only one album on. Chances are,  All the Times We Had bodes well for what there is to come.
