Fuck Buttons are: two Bristol boys who dance like caged apes. They,
Messrs. Hung and Power, make a kind of dirty/pretty electronica that is, at
worst, slightly repetitive, and, at best, the soundtrack to an apocalyptic
rave. Their debut Street Horrrsing was
gulped down by the press with a wince and a lemon slice; it had harsh waves of
treble, oily swamp-hiccups of bass, and sudden tortured screams-but it was
moving. As in (1) a jolt to the heart; and (2) a twitch in the hand (it’s
alive
!).

This follow-up is no disappointment, as
their beast rises and walks. The guys use melody more emotively than ever
before, with the progression of each fizzing tone in “Olympians” describing
something joyful and mournful, some funereal pride. It is quite nearly the
inverse of the former album, with the same shape, the same cracked teeth
percussion on “Rough Steez,” the same cawing jungles of multilayered synth, but
everything now bright as a body turned inside out, bleeding colour.
