The changes are easy to catch early on with Clap Your Hand And Say Yeah’s latest, Only Run. Their first album minus two long-time members, the band seems to have invested in a slew of new equipment with synth and keyboards dominating the album’s indie rock sound.

That’s not to say the guys have gone full electronica or dubstep, but there is certainly a noticeable difference just a couple of tracks in. The result is actually a pretty fair compromise of previous albums that flirted between dance rock and moody art rock. Not every song here hits its mark, (the vocals on the title track, for instance, sound like an obvious affectation) but when they do hit the target, they do so impressively well, (like on “Coming Down,” which features guest vocals from The National’s Matt Berninger).

The band’s latest evolution is bound to shed some fans of the old lineup, but the music here is interesting enough to attract some new listeners as well.
