One fine day roughly 10 years ago, Brooklyn native Rebecca Pronsky met a charming guitarist named Rich Bennett from the faraway borough of Staten Island. The two began performing together. Over the course of hundreds of shows and thousands of miles, a relationship blossomed. Last summer they got married and then got to work on their third full-length record Only Daughter (which Bennett also produced). Watch for the BLURT review of the album soon.
“Better That Way” is the first single off Only Daughter. The song is quite melancholy, about growing up and settling into adulthood, but has a deceptively bouncy melody. When it came time to shoot the video, Pronsky thought it would be funny to do something really tongue-in-cheek.
Director and editor Mark Feinsod cast Bennett in his daily trudge to the next gig, complete with all the hassles of a New York musician: heavy amplifiers, sidewalk cyclists, subway turnstiles. All the while he’s trying to get his most precious cargo, Pronsky herself, to the gig intact. When they finally arrive – PRESTO! – Rebecca comes to life to play the show.
“Better That Way” was shot in and around their neighborhood of Park Slope in Brooklyn and features backup vocals by friend Lucy Wainright Roche and her mother, folk legend Suzzy Roche.
