Video Premiere: Nellie Pearl “Sunshine”

Nellie Pearl

Key track from new album Lonesome No More…

By Blurt Staff

Louisville, KY, rockers Nellie Pearl have a new album they’re calling Lonesome No More, and with the enthusiasm of the BLURT gang they stand to feel all the more welcome: check out this animated, way-pixelated video for standout track “Sunshine,” exclusively today for you, our honored readership.

The band members commented on the track:

“Sunshine” explores the imaginative premise that one can live without loneliness, even if it means not continuing to exist when we die.  It’s important to live without caring too much about the trivial things and finding peace in life even despite the stress it brings.  The video by Romero envelopes the premise of the song by symbolizing the childlike wonder and positivity of simpler times in many of our lives.

The group has ben described as “a kind of curious amalgam of classic Americana roots-rock and indie quirkiness — think My Morning Jacket, Avett Bros, They Might Be Giants, New Pornographers, Decemberists.” They’ve pretty much stormed the local fortresses, and national press is signing on as well—one smitten writer described them as “a supergroup of musicians… in what could only be described as a sensuous orgy of musical expression.”

Well, all right then! The group got going a couple of years ago and hit an early stride with the EP So It Goes. This led to a grassroots fundraising campaign for the long-playing debut, and the group’s faith in fans was rewarded—the fans themselves being rewarded, in turn, with one of the best releases of the new year.

Members: J Mitchell – Guitars & Vocals (Blunt Honey), Rachel Lauren Monroe – Vocals, Gregg Manfredi – Upright Bass & Vocals (Harley Poe), Christo Foros – Percussion (Local Villains). Alex Peterson – Violin & Guitar (Hey Hey Honey).
