Video Premiere: Brownout (w/Alex Maas) does Black Sabbath

From Brown Sabbath album, and featuring guest Alex Maas of the Black Angels.

Austin’s Brownout are the critically acclaimed Texas nine-piece Latin psych-funk band who, it must be noted, once knocked the socks off ye olde BLURT editor at a SXSW performance. Right now, though, they are Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath, which as you might surmise is a reinvention of the repertoire of metal godfathers Black Sabbath. For their take on the Sabs’ “Hand of Doom” they were joined by Alex Maas of The Black Angels on vocals, and we have the new video to unveil for ya right here:

The track is available on limited edition color-splattered 10-inch, as well as on the Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath debut album out now from Ubiquity Records. There’s a terrific feature on the band that aired on NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and they are also touring extensively behind the release this summer on into the early fall. Dates below.

Meanwhile, check out an early BLURT album review of the band (2009’s Aguilas and Cobras) as well as a 2012 interview we conducted with bandleader and producer Adrian Quesada, who talks about Brownout, companion group Grupo Fantasma, and the ever-fertile genre of Latin rock.
