Video: John Wesley Harding Salutes Yep Roc & Record Store Day

They call it Wes, er, Roc!

By Blurt Staff

NC label Yep Roc is set to release an exclusive 12″ and DVD for this year’s Record Store Day (Saturday, April 20) of two songs recorded at the Artists Recording Session during the big Yep Roc 15 festival that took place at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro last October.

The songs are ”Yep Roc Heresy” (a Slim Gaillard cover) and ”They Call It Roc” (the Nick Lowe-penned Rockpile gem, natch), and both songs include an all-star Yep Roc lineup that was orchestrated and produced by Chris Stamey. Stamey and Scott McCaughey recorded 20+ acts in between sound checks, in hallways and in POP UP recording studios during the 4 night Yep Roc 15 festival and ultimately wrangled two songs.

The first 300 records will include a screen printed cover, all will be hand numbered, and there will be a digital download of two additional bonus remixes.

BLURT has long supported Yep Roc – they’re our Tarheel neighbors, after all – and we’re pretty psyched to start unveiling some behind the scenes video teasers to help you get geared up for Record Store Day, Yep Roc style. The first one is of Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne.

Enjoy the video, below, of YR artist John Wesley Harding tackling “They Call It Roc” in his own classic fashion…
