It was hands-down the most electrifying set the BLURT staff took in at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, who kicked off the NPR showcase at Stubb’s on March 13. As ye old editor has noted numerous times in the month since then, “The Bad Seeds just might be the most powerful band on the planet right now.”

I’m FM and I approved that statement…as have numerous friends who have also seen the band on their current US tour. The Cave crew is at Coachella this weekend and next weekend, with a gig in San Diego on Tuesday. After all that they head to Spain for the Primavera Festival. Meanwhile, you can listen to a high-quality audio stream of the SXSW performance at the NPR website. Prepare to be floored… unfortunately you will be denied the pleasures of the most profane version of Cave classic “Stagger Lee” ever committed to the concert stage, which closed out the show, as NPR has semi-wisely opted not to include that here (hey, it’s a family radio station!)…
