Suck On ‘Em Soon: The Coathangers

Coathangers

The Coathangers do not suck. They are: Julia Kugel (Crook Kid Coathanger – guitarist); Meredith Franco (Minnie Coathanger – bassist); Stephanie Luke (Rusty Coathanger – drums)

on’t let the above scare ya—not only is the distaff combo a longtime BLURT fave (okay, so they scared us once in Austin; we got over it), they rawk!—because there’s this business of a new album and a new tour. To wit:

The Coathangers bang out another full North American tour this spring – bringing their infectious sass and unruly live performance to this year’s SXSW, Spillover, Burgerama Fests and legs with The Black Lips and Audacity.  Their fourth full-length album is Suck My Shirt (out March 18th on Suicide Squeeze Records).

Meanwhile, we are advised that “the band retains the alluring spontaneity and happy accidents of their early releases, but this time the (now) trio push sounds far more deliberate and locked-in than anything they’ve done in the past.  Spikey, jarring guitar riffs, raspy vocals and solid melodic hooks are still apparent on their sophisticated side which sounds less like a jubilant version of Huggy Bear and more like the art-pop of late-era Minutemen.” Er, “spikey” should be spelled “spiky,” but we can live with it. In the seven years since their formation, The Coathangers have released a slew of records and toured across North America and Europe countless time.

Don’t miss these femme fatales live, okay? See ya all in Austin….
