Prolonged bout of ill health prompted by 2011 stroke. Cause of death not yet announced.

Ther will be no more rock action—specifically, we have lost Rock Action, the long-standing musician known to his family and friends as Scott Asheton, a/k/a the drummer for The Stooges. Details are sketchy at the moment, other than that he passed away yesterday (March 15) of unspecified causes.
Iggy Pop posted to his Facebook page earlier today, “My dear friend Scott Asheton passed away last night. Scott was a great artist, I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton’s have always been and continue to be a second family to me.”
Asheton suffered a stroke in 2011, following a show at the Hellfest Festival in Paris (6/17/11), at which time the band brought in Iggy Pop’s solo band’s drummer Toby Dammit.
We’ll update this info as we get more details.
