“The Pope of Pop” has passed away: Phil Ramone, engineer and producer to the stars, died Saturday, March 30, at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he had been hospitalized for the past month with an aortic aneurysm, reports Billboard. He was 79.
The multiple Grammy winner, active in the music business since the ‘60s, worked on albums by the above listed superstars and scores more artists. His 2007 memoir, Making Records: The Scenes Behind the Music, is considered a must-read among music buffs, detailing his involvement with such classic albums as Simon’s Still Crazy After All These Years and Bob Dylan’s Blood On The Tracks.
