The previously announced at Rolling Stone the (ahem) Rolling Stones tribute concert set up by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Oct. 26 at Cleveland’s State Theater (imaginatively titled “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But I Like It): The Music of the Rolling Stones”… wow; hope someone didn’t get paid for coming up with that) already includes The Faces Ian McLagan, vocalist Merry Clayton (who sang on “Gimme Shelter”; she was also the subject of a recent BLURT interview), Sarah Dash, Bernard Fowler, Steve Jordan, longtime Stones hornsman Bobby Keys, Trevor Lawrence, Steve Madaio, Waddy Wachtel and Willie Weeks. Now we learn from the RRHF that Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers, Nils Lofgren, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Sugar Blue, Lee Fields, Dave Pirner, Earl Sick, and the Flamin’ Groovies (Cyril Jordan and Chris Wilson; the Groovies have notably covered a slew of Stones songs over their career).
Other events centered around the weeklong RRHF Music Masters Series will include an in interview with Clayton, film screenings (such as the 1965-centric Charlie Is My Darling) and panel discussions. Meanwhile, let’s watch Hood’s version of the Stones’ “Shattered” live in 2006:
