Oneohtrix Point Never shares “Still Life (Excerpt)” Video

New album R Plus Seven arrives Oct. 1 on the Warp label.

Oneohtrix Point Never’s contemporary and collaborator Nate Boyce, video contributor to their Reliquary House performances, composes “Still Life (Excerpt)” video now playing:

“Still Life” is a characteristic cut off R Plus Seven. Drawing from layered roots in his Saatchi & Saatchi Cannes Installation 2012, Doug Aitken’s Happening, and atmospheric looping reminiscent of Replica, Lopatin pushes the disembodied voices of a choir through a maze, which he likens to a hallucinogenic browse of a video store’s horror section.

Their video interplays these concepts with morphing sculptures of inorganic life forms:

Incongruous surfaces come together in a nexus of fetishistic material interactions. Cryptic ads for obscure objects, fragments of sculptural forms, and remnants of material surfaces are thrown into the mix with bulging semi-solids, unctuous quasi-liquids that are agitated into an animated flow. There is no resolution other than the suspension of these discrete elements from diverging orders: liquid, mineral, organic, consumerist, etc. Their interactions simply propose a language that is looked at as it inheres in the plasticity of texture. This is the language of morphogenesis—the process of approaching form—imagined as a pulsatile latency that stops short of emergence.

After touring the Museum of Modern Art, ICA & Barbican with Lopatin, Boyce has recently shown at New Galerie, New York, Nottingham Contemporary, Liste, Switzerland, Vilma Gold, London and Altman Siegel Gallery, San Francisco.
