Meet Minor Victories: Mogwai, Slowdive, Editors Members

By Blurt Staff

Are supergroups anathema to indie rock? Not on your life, unless you hate, say, Monsters of Folk and the Dead Weather. On the horizon is the next s-group: Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell, Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite and the Editors’ Justin and James Locke, aka Minor Victories, who plan to drop an eponymous album on June 3 via Fat Possum.

Below you can watch “A Hundred Ropes,” the first single and video from the album, which has a decidedly Slowdive vibe, come to think of it. What started as an online track-swapping project eventually morphed into a full-blown recording session overseen by producer Justin Lockey, with guests Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon and James Graham of the Twilight Sad also pitching in. As Braithwaite drily observed, “Starting a band where some of the people have never met each other is something I’ve never heard of.”
