Sarah Cracknell (of our editor’s British fave St. Etienne) has a new album, Red Kite, just out on Cherry Red, and this week she previewed a limited edition two-track 7” single (or three-track digital) from it, “Take the Silver.” It will arrive Nov. 27 but is limited to only 700 copies. Knowing the S.E. rabid fanbase, copies won’t be available much past… um, today, actually.
The A-side is part-baroque due to the strings, part country-folk with a distinctive twang (is that a dobro?) and sweet, high harmonies (the lyrics have a definite Americana tilt as well), it’s completely different from what St. Etienne fans may be used to. But it’s a gem. (The additional tracks are “Sleepytown” on the vinyl and that plus “It’s Never Too Late” on the digital.) Listen to that A-side here:
November Wednesday 25th – Norwich – Waterfront
Thursday 26th – Hebden Bridge – Trades
Friday 27th – Birmingham – Oobleck
Saturday 28th – London – Cadogan Hall
