Hopscotch 2013 Festival Unveils Schedule


In its fourth year, Hopscotch Music Festival—downtown Raleigh, N.C., Sept. 5–7, 2013-has released the schedule. See the 175-band schedule here: http://hopscotchmusicfest.com/schedule.

On THURSDAY, SEPT. 5, a group of artists responsible for some of the best record releases in 2013—including KURT VILE, MARNIE STERN, GROUPER, WOLF EYES, PHARMAKON, PURLING HISS and LAPALUX—highlight a stacked evening of club shows around the city. Tokyo’s legendary MERZBOW, Hopscotch’s 2013 Improviser in Residence, will play a rare stateside engagement, while local heroes THE ROSEBUDS will perform Sade’s Love Deluxe in its entirety. Other highlights include more rare action by OBLIVIANS and WOLD, a dance party led by MATTHEW DEAR, and Hopscotch’s only artist-curated bill of 2013, anchored by CHATHAM COUNTY LINE.

On FRIDAY, SEPT. 6, Hopscotch hosts the first of two headlining nights in Raleigh City Plaza. One of hip-hop’s best live performers and creative forces, BIG BOI, headlines a bill that also features Baltimore’s party starters FUTURE ISLANDS and Triangle favorites GROSS GHOST. In the festival’s 14 club venues, the stellar hip-hop continues with EARL SWEATSHIRT and ACTION BRONSON at Lincoln Theatre, new indie charmers LOCAL NATIVES at Memorial Auditorium, and grindcore greats PIG DESTROYER at Kennedy Theater. PERE UBU, WAXAHATCHEE, RYAN HEMSWORTH, and SUUNS headline bills elsewhere. And in Fletcher Opera Theater, MT. MORIAH closes the night by performing their entire discography from start to finish.

On SATURDAY, SEPT. 7, the festival returns to Raleigh City Plaza for Hopscotch’s second headlining show: Psychedelic British gospel-rock legends SPIRITUALIZED share top billing with THE BREEDERS, who perform their ’90s masterpiece Last Splash in its entirety. Raleigh up-and-comers THE LOLLIPOPS open. JOHN CALE, co-founder of The Velvet Underground and dazzling composer, appears in the Triangle for the first time in decades at Memorial Auditorium and metal lords SLEEP headline a stellar metal bill at Lincoln Theatre. To top it off, LOW, PISSED JEANS, CALIFONE, MATMOS, ADULT. , and DOUG PAISLEY join RICHARD YOUNGS, EVOKEN, TORRES, RITON, and HOLLY HERNDON on this fully stacked closing night.

Hopscotch Music Festival is located in downtown Raleigh.     What an absolutely phenomenal lineup up of bands no one has ever heard of! This sets some kind of record for the first festival to hit the 99% mark of unknown performers ever to grace a show poster! Maybe the attendance will be vastly underwhelming as well.
