The 2013 Polaris Music Prize has been announced, and it’s the name above the title here. Godspeed’s latest album Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! is technically the proud recipient of the award, but the band will graciously accept for it. And the 30,000 bucks that goes along with it, too. (Actually their label, Constellation, did the accepting for band and album.)

Others in consideration for this year’s Canadian prize include Purity Ring’s Shrines, Metz’s Metz, Metric’s Synthetica, Tegan and Sara’s Heartthrob, Colin Stetson’s New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light, Young Galaxy’s Ultramarine, Zaki Ibrahim’s Every Opposite, A Tribe Called Red’s Nation Nation and Whitehorse’s The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss (all from the short list).
