Throws the band’s immediate and longterm future into doubt….
By Fred Mills
Fans of the mighty Fred Cole, he of the equally mighty Northwest garage/punk band Pierced Arrows (as well as that group’s predecessor, Dead Moon), received a major shock yesterday when they learned, via a posting his wife Toody Cole made to the Pierced Arrows Facebook page, that the guitarist has been experiencing heart problems—and that he’s going to have to have emergency surgery.
According to Toody:
“Our worst nightmare has come true. Over the last couple of weeks Fred has had problems with his heart. We didn’t want to make any decisions until the tests were all finished & we consulted with his heart doctors. Now we know that he has 80-100% blockage in his arteries and must have emergency open-heart surgery for a bypass.
“This is very major surgery and will be at least 6 months for recovery, maybe even a year. Obviously, this means we are forced to cancel all tours, shows, pending offers etc. for both Pierced Arrows & Dead Moon & Fred and Toody unplugged. —Fred&Toody”
The band had a series of UK and Euro dates lined up starting in April. We at BLURT are huge fans of Cole—he and Toody were one of our favorite interviews of the past 10 years or so, in a profile of Dead Moon—and we can only wish him the best and Godspeed…
