Wire

Strange, innit?

By Fred Mills

Since we seem to be tilting lately in a (cough) classic rock direction — see these recent news items on Tom Petty and Led Zeppelin for proof — we thought it might be prudent to serve up some ground zero punkage. Ergo, this killer sounding live 2003 concert from the legendary band Wire. Originally an FM broadcast from The Paradiso in Amsterdam (5/24/03) and featuring the full original lineup of Bruce Gilbert, Graham Lewis, Colin Newman and Robert Grey/Gotobed, the 14-song set has been posted as a free download over at the ever-astute Big O Zine:

 Wire Amsterdam May 24, 2003

At the time the band was in an artistic resurgence, having released a pair of acclaimed EPs plus the ’03 album Send; a few years later Wire would also be celebrating its 30th anniversary.
