We love all things DEVO around here, so fresh reason to cheer is the announcement that cofounder Mark Mothersbaugh, a visual artist in his own right for more than four decades, is set to publish Myopia (along with Alan Lerner). This is the first career-spanning book of Mothersbaugh’s art and the book’s release coincides with a major exhibition of Mothersbaugh’s work, which opens at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver on October 30, and will then travel to six cities.

Mothersbaugh has written the scores for most of Wes Anderson’s movies and many other films including The Lego Movie and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. He also hosts a regular drawing segment on the hit children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba! Like his music with DEVO, Mark’s visual art explores the relationship between human and machine and between appearance and reality. It bridges 70s-era punk surrealism and contemporary street art in a way that’s provocative, playful, and fresh. He is considered a pivotal figure in contemporary art and indie culture. Mothersbaugh works in a wide range of mediums. The book includes drawings, paintings, screen prints, sculptures, photographs, hand-built musical instruments, rugs(!), and more!
