But he is still hard to kill and even slower to die.

Kim Fowley: living legend. Do I even need to spell it out? L-E-G-E-N-D. But his health has been failing over the past couple of years, with multiple hospital stays. Earlier this week erstwhile Runaways vocalist Cherie Currie posted the following, ominous, message at her Facebook page:
“Life is ironic. Kim Fowley was moved into my home a week ago Friday. I have been a 24/7 caregiver for him. Funny, I have not been a fan of this man for decades but time is the great equalizer. It is an honor to be there for him. He is ill so please send prayers to him. He is as brilliant now as he has ever been. Caring for him keeps me from FB. Know I love you all and please send positive thoughts his way.”
And a little shiver of sadness went through the rock community. No matter what one’s opinion might be of Fowley—and there are some strong opinions out there, both pro and con—it’s never a pleasant task to ponder the mortality of those who have lived their lives out there on the front lines of the music biz. Then yesterday Currie posted a message and shared a photo from Fowley, who clearly refuses to roll over and let the Grim Reaper in without at least an arm-rassling challenge. The entire message is reproduced below. And Kim—good luck with whatever lays ahead for you, from your number one fan at BLURT.
KIM FOWLEY: STILL ALIVE & STILL IN LOVE WITH THE FUTURE MRS. KVF = KARA WRIGHT! This post is dedicated to the love of my life, Kara Wright, who has stood by me thick and thin through my recent life and death struggles, and cares for me on every possible human being level known to man.
You guessed it, I am back in the hospital again. I haven’t been on Facebook since February because I don’t want to be typecast as a Tragedy Poster Boy using my various illnesses as a pity tool to get work in showbiz.
Since February, I have secured music uses in Guardians of the Galaxy, anE! Channel Promo (10 week run), two separate tracks on MTV USA, one of which I sang and one of which I produced. I have contributed to upcoming albums by Ariel Pink, Taylor Locke, Cherie Currie, Nick Maybury, and The Drones Unlimited Orchestra. I am featured in The Seeds Movie (On-camera/Producer/Vocalist). I am also one of the narrators of the Boyce & Hart: The Guys Who Wrote ‘Em Documentary. You can still hear me on Sirius XM (Little Steven’s Underground Garage) every weekend. And I even found time to chart with KISS on their recent Billboard album. Yes, fan boys, I am still finding time slowly to complete the edits of my five experimental films due to be released when finished. Yes, we have a UK digital marketplace company ready to distribute these five visual gems. I’m also working with Mike Armstrong on providing music for his possible upcoming TV project on Showtime. My co-writers thus far are Andy Paley (SpongeBob Squarepants) and Cliff Retallick (True Blood/Claritin). Of course I’m still in love with Kara Wright, my long suffering fiancé. She has been with me in every hospital adventure since we started dating February 23, 2013.
A big thank you to Cherie Currie for letting me enjoy her house of sunshine, and another big thank you to Clare Ffrench Blake for her wrangling abilities.
Hey FB Nation, I can’t send out individual messages, can’t read any of your postings. This is just a general message to those of you curious about Kim Fowley’s creative activities in 2014. Of course I have vinyl product out on Norton Records, plus the next book is scheduled for Spring 2015 (Kicks Books). I hope I live long enough to see the second book printed.
Pray for me if you wish and remember: Be brave ladies and gentlemen in your own private lives. Kim Fowley is hard to kill, and slow to die.
