R.E.M. Sez Nurtz to Fox News

“Our music does not
belong there.”

Wednesday night the fair and balanced folks over at Fox News
tapped R.E.M. classic “Losing My Religion” to make a sonic point during their
coverage of the DNC. This did not sit well with the erstwhile bandmembers, as a
subsequent post on the R.E.M. website clearly indicates:

R.E.M.’s “Losing
My Religion” was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National
Convention last night. R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane
Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed
and unauthorized use of the song. Michael Stipe said, “We have little or
no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong
there.”

In related news, earlier this week, late Thin Lizzy bassist Phil
Lynott’s mother was similarly displeased bay the RNC’s use of “The Boys Are
Back in Town” at their recent gathering.
