All the way from the West Coast, Best Coast

duo Best Coast has been touring for their latest
album, The Only Place, released
back in May on Mexican Summer. The Only Place offers Beach Boy-like vocal melodies and
raw rock instrumentation over eleven new tracks marking their 2nd full-length record.
With a Nirvana-ish
anti-rock star attitude, Bethany
Cosentino and Bob Bruno kicked immediately into gear starting with “The End,” a
sarcastic but humorous title for an opening number. Loosened up, Cosentino kept her audience thirsty and engaged, asking fans
what they wanted to hear.
Midway through the set,
holding her cream-colored telecaster guitar (she wore matching high-heel
leather sandals), Cosentino blurted, “You all have to help me on this one,
because I’ve never not messed up the words.” To her left, Bruno shot Cosentino
a smile approving her spirit of improvisation. She sang with the crowd as they
helped and didn’t forget a word. The two, accompanied with backing musicians, kept
true to their lo-fi garage rock sound as they delivered a 20-song set to an
all-ages crowd. In addition to new material
the set included “When I’m With You,” their first single and music video; “Our
Deal,” directed by Drew Barrymore; and other tunes from their debut album, Crazy for You.
