Kitty Wells 1919-2012 R.I.P.

“It Wasn’t God Who
Made Honky Tonk Angels” – but God certainly made the angel-voiced country
singer.

Kitty Wells – Ellen Muriel Deason Wright, aka The Queen Of
Country Music – passed away yesterday (July 16) at the age of 92, from
complications associated with a stroke. The country singer’s influence upon the
music world was massive – not the least of which, her being the first female to
hit the #1 spot on the country charts with the above-named hit single in ’52.

The Country Music Hall of Fame member (1976) consistently
topped the charts for nearly two decades in the ‘50s and ‘60s and is considered
the sixth most successful female vocalist ever. You can read about her many
accomplishments at her Wikipedia page – meanwhile, here’s a video tribute.
