Better Than Something is the name of the Alex Hammond/Ian Markiewicz-directed Jay Reatard documentary that saw it’s initial screenings at film
festivals last year. Now it’s set for a wider U.S.
release, starting in Montana on Feb. 18 and Asheville & Atlanta on
Feb. 28, then hitting a number of cities for multiple-night runs, wrapping up
April 11 & 12 in San Francisco.
The Asheville showing is additionally noteworthy in that it will feature live
performances from Greg Cartwright’s new band The Report Cards (Cartwright, of the Reigning Sound and the Oblivions,
had played with Reatard frequently in the past), plus The Hooten Hallers and
Viva Le Vox.
The directors filmed the mighty Reatard in Memphis prior to his tragic death in 2009 and
interspersed interview material with live footage. You can read the BLURT
