Mike Kelley, artist, musician and provocateur, passed away
yesterday in Los Angeles,
ArtInfo.com news reports have indicated. It was an apparent suicide. Kelley was
Early on the Michigan
native found himself caught up in the early ‘70s art-rock/proto-punk scene and
was a founding member of the legendary Destroy All Monsters. He later became
active on the L.A.
art scene where he attended the California Institute of the Arts. He also
became friends with Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, collaborating with the band and
eventually creating the iconic sleeve for their Dirty album.
