Mercury Prize 2011 Nominees Announced

Our prediction: Adele
as runaway winner.

This year’s UK Mercury Prize nominees brings a few faces
familiar to American audiences (PJ Harvey, Elbow, Anna Calvi, Meronomy, King
Creosote), a few totally obscure on these shores (Everything, Gwilym Simcock)
and at least a couple that, hopefully, we can keep out (James Black, Katy B).

Oh yeah, there’s also Adele, whose 21 album is such an international juggernaut that it’s a foregone
conclusion she’ll take the prize in a runaway contest, then go on to sweep the
Grammys next spring.

We are rooting for PJ of course, since she’s our most recent
cover artist… the winner will be announced Sept. 6.

The Nominees Are:

Adele: 21
Anna Calvi: Anna Calvi
Elbow: Build a Rocket Boys!
Everything Everything: Man Alive
Ghostpoet: Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam
Gwilym Simcock: Good Days at Schloss Elmau
James Blake: James Blake
Katy B: On a Mission
King Creosote & Jon Hopkins: Diamond Mine
Metronomy: The English Riviera
PJ Harvey: Let England
Shake

Tinie Tempah: Disc-Overy
