Mountain guitarist Leslie West, 65, and prepping a new
album, The Unusual Suspects, has
undergone surgery in Biloxi,
MS, to remove his leg up to the
knee. West and Mountain had flown in to Mississippi
to perform at the Hard Rock, and then on Saturday, his leg began to swell.
West, a diabetic, was rushed to the emergency room and was diagnosed with the
decision to go through an amputation in order to save his life.
The surgery was a success and West is expected to fully
recover, and faces extensive rehabilitation. Meanwhile, plans for the
album – which includes heavy-hitting guests Billy Gibbons, Slash, Zakk Wylde, Joe Bonamassa
and Steve Lukather, plus drummer Kenny Aronoff – are temporarily on hold until
more details come from the West camp.
