Over the past week sharp-eyed watchers have been noting the day-by-day rollout of artists announced for this year’s Austin City Limits Festival, to be held September 16-18 at Austin’s Zilker Park. Late yesterday the full announcement was made, with headliners including Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes and Alison Krauss & Union Station.

The rest of the linup also skews towards alt-rock and alt-leaning roots/Americana; see the list, below. Notable exceptions, however, include the real head-scratcher of Stevie Wonder, who doesn’t appear to have even the remotest connection to what ACL is all about (perception is everything, natch).

And with Kanye West and Coldplay also on the bill, well… all one can do is admire the festival bookers’ commercial savvy while lamenting this unfortunate, and overt, slide towards the mainstream. (Maybe Justin Bieber and Britney Spears are on tap for 2012, hmmm?)

Anyhow, it’s still a big-ass, and cool festival. And ya better move quick, since Early Bird discounts and 3-day passes are already sold out, with just single-day tickets now available. Details, as always, at ACLFestival.com.

Nas & Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, Cee Lo, Bright Eyes, Social
