Time for everyone to give a little
previously noted in this space, on Feb. 15 Rick Kulwicki, guitarist for the
band The Fluid – of Sub Pop early ‘90s fame, and who reunited in 2008 – passed
away unexpectedly. Kulwicki was a much-loved and -admired guy, and he was also
a single dad raising his two sons Richard and Roman – they had even put
together their own band, Purple Fluid.
doesn’t come as a surprise that the music community would rally to help out.
vocalist John Robinson has helped establish a fund for the boys, Robinson
sent out a message this weekend to friends and fans that read, in part, “My good friend and bandmate passed away last month.
We’ve set up a fund for his kids. Rick was an excellent father and
was raising his sons alone… Please share this link.”
There are links on the page where you can quickly
and easily make a donation of any amount; it’s set up for instant PayPal
payments, or you can also use credit cards. At the page you’ll also see details
of a benefit concert in Denver at the Bluebird
Café, March 25 and 26, plus an additional benefit BBQ and show on April 24 at
the Larimer Lounge (also Denver).
All proceeds will be going to the kids – who, incidentally, will also be
performing with their band.
Writes Robinson at the Fund page, “It’s hard
for us as adults to cope with the grief we are feeling, and harder still for
his children as they suffer the loss of the center of their universe.
They’re very fortunate that the surrounding community embraces them as one of
their own. Their grandmother now lives with them in order that they can
maintain continuity in their school, community and friendships which is
especially important in the face of what they are experiencing. They are
doing very well in high school and have goals for college and we’d all like to
see their dreams become reality.”
