6CD Springsteen “Darkness” Boot Due

The digital don has an
offer you can’t refuse…

As great as that Bruce Springsteen 3CD/3DVD Darkness on the Edge of Town box (issued
late last year to critical huzzahs) was, any Springsteen collector with even
just a basic awareness of what lurks in the Boss archives knew that the
two-disc The Promise inclusion,
comprising 21 tracks of outtakes, barely scratched the Darkness surface. Into the gap now steps venerable (some would say
notorious) bootleg label Godfather with a worthy companion set to the official
one.

Titled The Unbroken
Promise: Lighting Up the Darkness Sessions
, it’s a six-disc box that serves
up a whopping 72 tracks of outtakes, housed in three separate 2CD  trifold sleeves and accompanied by a 48-page
booklet and a poster. Most – if not all – of the material has surfaced in the
past on various labels’ attempts to index the sprawling Darkness oeuvre, including Godfather, which just a few years ago
released the superbly-curated 2CD The Definitive Darkness
Outtakes Remastered
(no doubt that title’s tunes will be part of The Unbroken Promise). But it amounts to
an impressive effort just the same, to bring as much high quality Darkness content as possible under one
roof.

The digital don also is about to unleash the massive 8CD
Pink Floyd box The Complete Rainbow Tapes featuring the four legendary Floyd Rainbow Theatre shows from London, Feb 17-20, 1972. It and the Bruce box
joins recent high-quality Godfather titles covering Neil Young (Like An Inca, 2CDs, from the ’82 Trans tour) and Elvis Presley (That’s the Way It Was, a 2CD set
of rehearsal tapes from July of 1970).
