Grammy Noms: Way to Go, Arcade Fire!

But then there’s also
Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Lady Antebellum, Bruno Mars and, uh, Justin Bieber…

By Fred Mills

As expected, last night’s announcements of Grammy
nominations anointed Eminem as Heavy Hitter Of The Year, with 10 nods for everything
from Album Of The Year (Recovery) to
Song of the Year (“Love the Way You Lie”). And also notching a slew of
multiples were Jay Z, Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga with 6 apiece, plus dark
horse Bruno Mars with 7. In that regard, the 53rd Annual Grammy
Awards that takes place next Feb. 13 will probably not yield too many
surprises.

However, you can’t help but feel cheered about Arcade Fire –
a likely frontrunner for BLURT’s year-end best-of list – earning 3 nominations:
Album of the Year and Best Alternative Album (The Suburbs), plus Best Performance by a Duo or Group With vocals (“Ready
to Start”). They absolutely deserve to win all three. And another one of our
faves, the Black Keys, is up for no less than 5: Best Alternative Music Album,
Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals, Best Rock Instrumental
Performance, Best Recording Package and Best Rock Song.

And then there’s Justin Bieber…

At any rate, among the artists nominated for assorted
Grammys that we’d like to see win something include Nortec Collective, Cee-Lo Green, Ray
LaMontagne, Robyn, Neil Young, John Legend w/The Roots, Robert Plant, Mavis
Staples, Los Lobos and Danger Mouse.
