Awhile back it was announced that a Neil Young tribute
concert would be taking place early next year at Carnegie Hall, and today some
more detailed info arrives via the ever-reliable electronic method of
transmitting news from one computer to the other. Mark your calendars for
February 10, as that’s when a host of musical luminaries will assemble for a
Young trib – and in the process raise money for music education programs for
Smith, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid, DeVotchKa, Shawn Colvin, Bettye LaVette,
Bebel Gilberto, Aimee Mann, Keller Williams, The Roots, Larry Campbell, Cowboy
Junkies, and Mason Jennings are the first performers to be announced, and more
are expected to join the roster. 100% of the net proceeds from the concert will be given to six
music education non-profits: The American Symphony Orchestra Music Notes,
Church Street School of Music, Young Audiences, Music Unites All-Youth Choir,
The Pinwheel Project, and FIKS (Fixing Instruments for Kids in Schools).
According to promoter Michael Dorf, in a statement, “Our decision to honor
the music of Neil Young at Carnegie Hall generated instant, tremendous feedback.
We’ve already sold a significant number of tickets and premium packages, and we
can’t wait to share this incredible evening of music. Another sell-out crowd
