As was expected, this morning brought the announcement that Apple has finally reached an agreement with, er, that OTHER Apple (EMI, technically speaking) to finally sell downloads of the Beatles’ back catalog via iTunes. This follows years of stalled negotiations and sometimes even legal wrangling, but fans can now rest easy and start downloading a la carte Fab Four tunes to their hearts’ content.
“We love the Beatles and are honored and thrilled to welcome them to
iTunes,” Apple’s Steve Jobs in a statement released today. “It has been a long
and winding road to get here.”
Ouch. Anyway, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the widows of George Harrison and John Lennon all approved of the deal, which was a precondition.
