Sad news in the indie community. Kill Rock Stars recording artist Jeff Hanson was found dead
Friday at his apartment in St. Paul, Minn. According to a
report filed
by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star
Tribune
the cause of death was most likely due to “a fall or other accident
at the concrete floored apartment,” according to Hanson’s sister Sara. He was
31.

Since signing to KRS in 2003, Hanson had released three
acclaimed albums, notably 2008’s Madam
Owl.
In our review of the album we observed “the loveliness of Hanson’s
material demands [close] listen, given the nimble folk-finesse imbued in each
of these offerings. With strings and the steady strum of an acoustic guitar
providing quiet accompaniment, Hanson’s voice melds assurance and affirmation
to a subdued set of songs.

According to the newspaper report Hanson grew up in Waukesha, Wis.,
and had divorced last year but did not have any children. His sister “emphasized
that her brother never had any trouble with substance abuse.”

BLURT extends our heartfelt condolences to Hanson’s sister
and parents.
