well as some surprises.

Last night in Memphis the annual Blues Music Awards were
held, and among the notable winners were Buddy Guy, Janiva Magness, Irma
Thomas, BB King and the late Jeff Healey. Several of them, including Guy,
Magness and King, walked away with multiple awards at the bash.

The six-hour event featured 46
performers, and the show, in addition to being broadcast on Sirius XM, was
taped for a proposed DVD release later this year.

BLURT correspondent Rev. Keith A.
Gordon had been tracking the awards and noted that the “lengthy ceremony… saw
the best that the blues has to offer recognized with awards for excellence in
26 categories,” singling out Guy and King, of course, along with blues pianist Eden
Brent for praise at his About.com: Blues blog.

You can read more of what the good
Rev. had to say at his blog. Tell him we sent ya!
