As part of a project to raise awareness and money in the ongoing cause for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people being able to enjoy social equality
and the right to marry (hello, all you bigots in California), the legendary Seattle punk band The Fags – currently
comprising Barb Ireland, Ben Ireland, Dahny Raphael and Dave Bayro (founding
member Charles “Upchuck” Gerra, aka “The Gay Cobain,” passed away in 1990 from
AIDS complications) – will be recording a CD/digital 3-song single. The equally
legendary Jayne County will be doing the vocals.
According to a press release from project organizer Dennis
White, “Jayne is a very vocal supporter of Gay and Transgendered rights and
will also be donating her royalties to charity.
I will also be giving profits to the fight for GLBT equality. We are expecting some ‘guest appearances’ on
this recording. We are planning to pull
out all stops to get this heard, and we’ve got an arsenal of outrage, gimmicks
and schtick to make this a fun project.”
The world can always use additional outrage, gimmicks and
schtick in rock ‘n’ roll, so consider this a big BLURT thumbs-up.
White is soliciting donations to the project and for
interested people to spread the word. “Promoting this,” says White, “is going to take some
serious financial resources and I’d really like to make this a collective
effort. Here’s a chance to get involved
in helping an important cause. Give if you
can; if you can’t pass this on to someone you think will be able to.”
the goal is $1651 and you can make secure online pledges via PayPal or credit
card HERE – you can also get more information about the recording. To read some
