The Ettes w/New EP, Tour

That’s Coco, Poni and
Jem to their friends….

By Fred Mills

BLURT hero/heroines The Ettes
will be serving up a March 2009 EP and have a limited edition vinyl single in
the works recorded with friend/fan Dan
Auerbach of the Black Keys. The
5-track EP includes two tracks with Auerbach, one unreleased track from the Toe
Rag sessions that yielded this year’s amazing Look At Life Again Soon, and two live tracks.

Meanwhile, though, they’ll be
doing select national dates starting in January and are scheduled to appear at
SXSW, where for the past two year’s they’ve stormed Austin stages like nobody’s business. (BLURT
was in attendance so we can attest that you’d be a chump to miss ‘em on tour.)

Some p.r. hype that ain’t

The Ettes have been melting
hearts and stages across America
with their unique sound – part 60s girl group melodic pop, part raw early punk
anthems and enough attitude and live presence to ignite the dance
floor.   Tours with like-minded artists ranging from the New York
Dolls to Holly Golightly, The Constantines
and the Black Keys have honed the band’s edge. THE ETTES managed to blow
audiences away at clubs and fests such as SXSW, CMJ and more. They also
conquered Spain,
where the Spanish edition of Rolling
Stone dedicated five pages to a spread on the trio!

Lauded by fans and critics alike, American radio has
embraced the band, and they’ve also had song placements on MTV and critical
fave Friday Night Lights.
Their current release, Look At Life Again Soon (Take Root),
found them back at London’s
legendary analog haven Toe Rag Studios to work with soul mate and  gear
guru Liam Watson, who took the band under his wing. The production is
effectively low-fi and has a nice, tube-amp growl that suits the band’s beat-punk rock and roll. It’s also a
blistering follow-up to their Sympathy for Record Industry debut, Shake the Dust (2006) and shows The
Ettes as a band that just keeps getting better.
