Ralph Nader Is At It Again

Rounds up Ike Reilly, Jello Biafra, Nellie McKay, Tom Morello and others.

By Fred Mills

Good ol’
Ralph Nader. Right at a point when polls are showing that the race between
Obama and McCain is going to be a lot tighter that originally expected (and
therefore Democrats and independent voters need to rally all the harder behind
Obama), Nader pushes onward with his own presidential campaign. Nader and Matt
Gonzalez have scheduled what they’re billing as Super Rallies in both Denver and Minneapolis
during the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.  They plan to
have special speakers and performers including Ike Reilly, Jello Biafra, Nellie
McKay and Tom Morello.

The rallies
are a call for opening the presidential debates – an admirable goal, don’t get
us wrong. But as in 2004, there’s something larger at stake this year. (You all
remember what happened in 2004, right? Nader was a candidate then, too.) It’s
called, keep the Republicans out of the
White House at all costs.

On Wednesday, August 27, during the Democratic National Convention, Nader will
hold  a “Super Rally” for as many as 7,000 people at the University of Denver’s
Magness Arena.  Then, on September 4, Nader will hold a second similar
rally at the Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis
during the Republican National Convention.

Speakers, performers and celebrity supporters are still being confirmed but so
far include Ike Reilly, Jello Biafra, Nellie McKay, Val Kilmer, Tom Morello,
and Cindy Sheehan.
