Oh, and she’s got a
new live DVD due out shortly, too…
By Fred Mills
While hairy-palmed fanboys (and gals…) were busy panting
over the news that RCA artist Avril
Lavigne will release “The Best Damn Tour” Live DVD on September 9, we got busy elsewhere. Surely there’s some Avril cheesecake
out there on the web, we thought to ourselves, even as the interns walked past
our desks muttering, “perverts.” But it sure did bear looking into.
Well, hey. Recorded
at her sold out April 7, 2008 concert at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, and
directed by Wayne Isham (Avril Lavigne, Simple Plan, Sheryl Crow), the DVD will
feature live performances of hits such as “Girlfriend,” When You’re Gone,”
“Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi.” But what about the visuals? What about that
near-nekkid Blender cover – the one
that did NOT create a shitstorm, unlike Miley Cyrus’ photographic turn for Vanity Fair? Did she recreate that for
the DVD production?
Apparently not. So we had to keep lookin’ for pics and we
sorta found a chronological progression from punk-pop tart to just plain tart.
According to Lavigne’s label, The Best Damn Thing, released in April
2007, is already certified platinum in the U.S. and has sold over 5 million
copies worldwide. Produced by Butch Walker (The Donnas, American Hi-Fi,
Lavigne’s second album Under My Skin), Dr. Luke (Pink, Lady Sovereign),
Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance) and her husband Deryck Whibley of
Sum 41, The Best Damn Thing was made with fun in mind. This is
evident from the first single, “Girlfriend,” which reached #1 on the Billboard
Hot 200 and was named the #1 digital download of 2007 by the IFPI
(International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), with over 7.3 million
copies sold in 8 languages. Now fans can watch the high-spirited energy
of the record come to life on the live DVD.
Ah. High spirited energy of a record coming to life on a
live DVD is always a plus.
Say, did you know that Lavigne has sold over 30 million albums
worldwide, is quickly paving her own path to rock ‘n’ roll royalty, is also
making a name for herself in the acting world, with a recent role in the
Richard Linklater-directed Fast Food Nation and voice work in the
animated Over the Hedge, and recently launched her clothing line, Abbey
Dawn, which is available exclusively at Kohl’s stores nationwide and will
be launching her fragrance with Proctor and Gamble in 2009?
We didn’t know that either. But thanks to the handy-dandy
press release we got in the mail about Lavigne – shamelessly cut/pasted
throughout this news item, incidentally – we know now.
