Anti-Flag, NOFX Rock the Cons!

Let no Democrat or Republican be left
unturned…

By Fred Mills

Well, all right
then! NOFX are “headlining” the opening of the Democratic National
Convention in Denver and will be playing the Red
Rocks Amphitheatre at Morrison,
CO, this Friday, August 22. To
celebrate the Obama nomination, the
band will be doing their classic LP Punk
in Drublic
from start to finish. Also on the bill for the “Punk Rocks 2008”
show: Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bouncing Souls, Circle Jerks, Street Dogs and
Frontside Five.

Says a NOFX rep from their label, Fat Wreck Chords, “Fat
Mike is pretty sure he is on Barack’s VP shortlist. Keep yer fingers crossed
everybody!”

Meanwhile over on
the, uh, Republican side of the equation – rockin’ in the erstwhile free world
as a peaceful protest at the RNC in Minnesota, that is – on September 2,
the mighty Anti-Flag (which features BLURT blogger Justin Sane) will be playing
in St. Paul on the Capitol lawn. Other artists will include Michael Franti
& Spearhead, Dead Prez, Wookiefoot w/ Matisyahu, I Self Devine, and others.
This event, dubbed Ripple Effect,
was organized by Substance, a
non-profit begun by three activists under the age of 23 all determined to break
down issue and generational barriers, while addressing pertinent environmental
and social justice topics. (Check out the website: www.livewithsubstance.org.)

The next day, September 3, Anti-Flag will be playing with
the legendary political rock band Rage
Against The Machine in Minneapolis
as part of  a protest show organized to take place at the same time as the Republican National Convention.
