Wynn, McCaughey, Pitmon, Buck on Letterman

In which our heroes
smack one out of the ballpark…

Here’s a treat you don’t wanna miss: The Baseball Project,
live tomorrow night (June 20) on the Late
Night With David Letterman
show. Who is The Baseball Project, you ask? That
would be the mighty Steve Wynn (Miracle 3, Danny & Dusty, Dream Syndicate) and
Scott McCaughey (Minus 5, REM, Young Fresh Fellows) along with Wynn’s M3
drummer Linda Pitmon and a chap who goes by the name of Buck — Peter Buck, to
be precise. You may have heard of him…

In a nutshell, Steve and Scott decided to team up and pen an
album’s worth of material about baseball, hence the ad hoc combo’s name. They
had talked in the past about collaboration, and apparently they decided to move
forward with the project after they ran into each other last year.

“It finally took flight at the R.E.M. pre-Hall of Fame
induction party in New York,”
Wynn remembers. “Everyone was happy. The wine was flowing, the food was
incredible and spring training had just started. Scott and I talked baseball
until most of the party guests had cleared out. And we actually remembered it
the next day.”
