June 23, 2013 at the Saratoga Springs Performing Art Center – time for a Petty rewind!

After seeing Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers a few weeks ago at the Beacon Theater, I thought it was about as good as it gets. Going to the venue at S.P.A.C. l wondered how a much bigger venue (20,000 plus capacity) would compare to the more intimate Beacon (3,800 capacity). I soon saw the difference; the band was going through a catalog of songs much more radio friendly than the more deep track driven set in New York City.
Doing the incredible cover of Paul Revere and the Raiders’ “Steppin’ Stone,” “Tweeter and the Monkey Man” (with a very spaced-out jam at the end), another rarity, “Melinda” (a song that only appears on the live album), and closing the show with “American Girl,” the night was filled with great energy at this beautiful venue in upstate New York. I have been to a number of shows this summer but this one takes the cake.
