The Upshot: An all-around great slab of wax that hopefully means a full length won’t be far behind.

Bobkat ’65 and their latest 45 is a potent reminder that Get Hip Records is a mecca of garage rock in an auto tune threatened world. Hailing from the northern Spanish province of Asturias, Paula, Anina, and Diego have that magical combination, of great hooks, raw production and pure talent. It’s always great to hear bands from around the world do their take on 60’s garage rock. “Gwani” will have you tapping your toes and rocking to the sweet simplicity of this tune. It’s a wonderful time warp of a song that recalls The Chocolate Watch Band and elements of the Indonesian all girl band, Dara Puspita. “Time” on the B side is slightly more introspective with a rolling snare and a guitar line that faintly recalls The Animals “House of the Rising Sun”. The singing on this number is more reflective and brooding, yet equally as compelling as the A side. An all-around great slab of wax that hopefully means a full length won’t be far behind.
