Tom Morello on Dems & GOP: “Drive Them Into the Sea”

Technically the complete quote should read, “Another strategy is marching with pitchforks and torches and driving the whole fucking lot of them into the sea.” Below, check out some rather charged tunes.

Currently on tour, and ahead of the Republican National Convention for which he plans to take his new supergroup to and fuck some shit up, Tom Morello, aka guitarist for Prophets of Rage featuring the Rage Against the Machine rhythm section, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, and Cypress Hill’s B-Real, is making the press rounds. And he’s pulling no punches. Consider a couple of choice quotes:

From Billboard:

“The goal is “don’t settle.” I believe the lesser of two evils isn’t a figure of speech, that there’s great damage done by both Democratic and Republican parties. And while there are certainly differences between them, it’s a game of good cop/bad cop. It’s a routine; it’s by design. That’s why people can’t escape the two-party monopoly. They try to do it; they get the worse cop. Our message is they’re both cops. Bernie Sanders attempted to hijack the Democratic party so it can’t be used against us. For him, it’s about taking over a corporate party and making a people’s party. Now, it’s a strategy; another strategy is marching with pitchforks and torches and driving the whole fuckng lot of them into the sea. I subscribe to the latter strategy. “

From CNN:

“One thing that we’ve seen in common with both the Trump campaign, elements of the Sanders campaign — from the Black Lives Matter movement to Occupy Wall Street from a few years ago — is that people believe that the system is corrupt, the system is irrevocably broken… [There are] egitimate grievances about American jobs being sent overseas, about declining standard of living, about Wall Street controlling Washington. [But Ttrump is] basically calling for ethnic cleansing.

“The message behind Prophets of Rage and the Make America Rage Again tour is that it’s not enough to just cast your ballots into the void every four years,” Morello said, adding that “progressive, radical or even revolutionary change” can only happen when ordinary people fight “before, during and after Election Day.”

Below, watch Morello cover Woody Guthrie’s “Old Man Trump” and Prophets of Rage perform new song “The Party’s Over”.
