UK mavericks Primal Scream – were/are they jangle pop, shoegaze, Madchester house, Stones/P-Funk/Motor City rawk or all of the above? YOU decide! – issue their first LP in five years on June 18. More Light, the followup to 2008’s Beautiful Future, slithers from the bleeding hearts of Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes and was produced by David Holmes (look him up, punks). It features guest appearances from Robert Plant (“Elimination Blues”), Kevin Shields, The Pop Group’s Mark Stewart (“Culturecide”), and Jason Faulkner. The other members of PS include Martin Duffy, Darrin Mooney, Barrie Cadogan and Simone Butler.
Mainman Gillespie, on the rec: “I wanted to convey coming out of a dark time and into a good one…We always knew it wasn’t going to be a straight ahead, balls to the wall, high energy rock ‘n’ roll, two guitars, bass and drum record. It’s sophisticated, layered, cinematic and orchestral; obviously working with Holmes we were hoping to make a record more in keeping with that vision.”
There will be a regular and deluxe version of the album, the latter featuring 6 bonus tracks. Tunes? You want tunes? Here we go:
